About Artistic Wood Appliques

The story of Artistic Wood Appliques reaches back to at least the early 1930s and the Boynton-Waddell Company, which produced decorative wood appliques and moldings for a variety of customers. Among them was the Robert Morgan Organ Company, a manufacturer of church and theater organs. Remarkably, some of the applique designs used on those theater organs are still part of our collection today.

In the late 1960s, the applique business was sold and eventually became part of Artistic Woodworking in Imperial, Nebraska. Artistic Woodworking continued the tradition of producing decorative wood appliques, wood moldings, and other architectural wood products, with the furniture industry becoming a major customer.

In 2021, Artistic Woodworking sold the applique business to Artistic Wood Appliques. The production equipment, along with more than 400 steel and brass embossing dies, was relocated to our facility in Byhalia, Mississippi.

Today, we continue to manufacture decorative embossed wood appliques using the same specialized equipment and many of the historic dies that have been part of this craft for generations. Our collection reflects decades of design history, from traditional architectural details to decorative
motifs that continue to be used in furniture, cabinetry, restoration, and
creative projects.

We are proud to carry this long tradition forward while producing our appliques here in the USA.

One of the characteristics that makes our products unique is how they are made.

Our decorative pieces are embossed wood appliques rather than carved wood appliques. Traditional carved wood accents are generally thicker, with deeper cuts and sharply defined dimensional details. Our embossing process creates intricate raised designs while maintaining a thinner, more subtle profile.

The result is a decorative wood accent that adds texture and detail without the heavier appearance of traditional carved ornamentation.

Our embossed appliques are an excellent choice for furniture makeovers, cabinetry, doors, mantels, wall panels, frames, signs, architectural details, crafts, and woodworking projects. Depending on the project, they can also be painted, stained, glazed, or finished to coordinate with the surrounding surface.
